All the liar Gold0 is doing is showing how he simply has no idea about football or how to run a football club.

Beardy is on twitter again trying to defend the clubs lack of youth team players making it into the senior squad.

given our lack of financial clout i would say the kids are one of the key areas we should be focusing on.

Indeed mate. This problem started many years ago though, way before the days or home grown rules clubs bought foreign players mainly because they were cheaper to finance. there used to be a rule that transfers between english clubs could only be paid over 2 seasons max, at the time to buy a player from europe it was up to 4 seasons. that's when we started getting a large influx of foreign players, and it hasnt stopped since.

I wonder if, to complement this, there should somehow be a rule on the number of u21 players a club can have. The idea of English u23s in line ups is great, but ultimately it'll just drive up the prices for these players even more, and keep all of the talented ones out of the hands of all but the biggest clubs who will stockpile them even more than now. Most of them won't even get a game.

The talent needs to be able to be shared around- and not on a loan only basis. This would be for the good of the vast majority of clubs AND young players.

The clubs and PL need to make some compromises for the good of the national game, but of course they won't as the PL only care about money and protecting the value of their product, and most of the club owners couldn't give a shit about England.

I think they'd have to force it for all professional matches.

Obviously for most teams outside of the Championship this will just happen by default but I agree with AMA in that just watching hired foreigners all the time is not what football should be about.

Good point, but if the FA really want to encourage a good England team in and for years to come then they have to implement a rule regarding home grown players in either line ups or match day squads. The problem is that the PL is basically a corporation effectively 'owned' by the 20 clubs that compete. Would they be willing to accept such a rule, or could the FA force it?

Re: England U20's ...World Cup semi final
The team that went to Toulon was basically an under 18s team with some peripheral u20s which makes that achievement a very good one. That said I guess other countries had similar conditions.

The U19s are away at another tournament this summer which is why they didn't go but the FA decided we should go and defend the trophy even with a scratch side.

I agree that clubs should have to play maybe 2 U23 English players in the first XI on matchday, it's the only way to encourage development of the youngsters at club level.

The country is doing it's part now and taking it seriously, time for the clubs to follow suit.

A (dirty) Leeds player called Ronaldo Vieira was playing for England in that Toulon Tournament.

It's about time our FA insisted on a strict home grown quota on matchdays, allowing these young prospects the opportunity to develop at club level. I'm sick of seeing English teams full of foreigners.

Another U20 England team has just won the prestigious Toulon Tournament also. I think they must have been a B team with the U20 World Cup going on at the same time.

Hopefully this is a good sign for things to come.

Good game of football that. Makes you wonder about the mindset of the FAI who recently saw BFS as the man to lead the senior team.
